Adopt-A-School
The Adopt A School Program creates opportunities for local businesses and organizations to help improve Oakland public schools by providing increased access to volunteers and resources.
Volunteers
You and your organization can spend time in the school assisting teachers, tutoring students, helping with after-school programs, and providing other support to the school staff.
Donations
Every school needs more and better equipment and materials. You can arrange for technology donations, more books for the library, or even supplies for the teachers.
Site Events
School Spruce-Up Days are a great way for volunteers to contribute by cleaning up, painting, and other work to improve the schools appearance. You could also help put on academic events.
Professional Aid
Have a skill? We'd love for you to share it! Give students an education in real world knowledge, and lend your assistance to the school staff with your abilities.

Learning Labs
Give students the ability to use technology to learn more about the world around them, and give teachers 21st century resources to help prepare our students for the future.
Statistics show that the more individual attention a child receives, the more likely he or she is to improve their grades, attendance and general attitude toward school. Your organization can provide that support!

HEROES and the Office of Wilma Chan can coordinate the placement of your organization in a school. We will facilitate meetings with school management and make sure both you and the school are matched and that expectations are clear.
Adopt A School Checklist:
- Decide how much time you can spend volunteering and how often you can volunteer.
- Consider the skills or resources that you want to offer.
- Select a school where you would like to volunteer.
- Contact HEROES to arrange a meeting with the school principal and learn about preliminary requirements.
- Complete preliminary requirements.
- Encourage your colleagues, friends, and family to Adopt A School!
